The name

In ancient Japan, people named the colors inspired by the Nature — from the flowers, plants, or from the subtle changes of light in the sky. “nibi” was selected out of more than 450 names. It is a generic term used for the whole gamut of the Japanese “Sumi”ink in black.

The sphere

Expressing the various aspects with delicate shades in monochrome, “nibi”-color can stir up the hidden colors in your memory, and can evoke all the emotions such as joy, sorrow, or awe. The sphere presented by “nibi”-color is filled with endless possibilities and multiplicities.

The circle

The sphere of “nibi” resembles the earth that includes all the lives in the nature.
For me, “nibi” appears in a round form, as with the earth. The perfect form of a circle fascinates me. I often start making a garment by drawing a circle on the cloth.
I cut the circle into a variety of shapes to build up a solid structure. I am tempted to change, distort, or reconstruct the circle to create my own sphere.

空、風、花、木、土、水・・・円の記憶は子供の頃へと回帰させる。私にとり円とは、宇宙、永遠。そのフォルムに揺らぎと変化を求め、解体と構築を繰り返す。私の『円』に辿り着くまで。
